If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless. Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.

Do you believe in Heaven? If so, can you say for sure that you are going there when you die? Nearly every person is confronted with these fascinating questions at some point in their life. They are fascinating, because Heaven can seem inherently fanciful, but somehow also tangible and attainable.
There are a lot of what if questions in life, and the what if questions surrounding Heaven can fell even the most stubborn of atheists.
Often, late in life, human pride becomes less important to people and they humbly accept the possibility of something more when they perish. While many make changes late in life, merely as fire insurance, others see Heaven as something to look forward to when their preordained time comes.
In many faiths, Heaven is a new life of reward, bought by the deeds done in this life. It is also seen, by some as an undeserved reward and restoration between God and people, paid for by God Himself. Many believe we are undeserving of Heaven because of our sins, and yet, by accepting God’s love and sacrifice, we can automatically be included in God’s family in Heaven itself.
Regardless of perceptions of Heaven, it is agreed to be reserved as the place for us when this life ends. Most people would naturally be happy to be able to rejoice in their death. It’s possible to rejoice in knowing that you lived a good and full life, but that is far outweighed by declaring your demise to be final.
Is it silly to hope for mansions of splendor when you are near death, when the alternative is apathy, to pronounce your inability to continue, that you will become as no more, as the very dirt?
Near-death Experiences are similar to out of body experiences, but they are certainly not the same thing. Those who claim to have experienced a near-death experience, tell of seeing a bright light, or even journeying to Heaven.
Some people may tell of an Angel taking them up to heaven, and witnessing the glories that are yet to come.
There are some people who tell of just the opposite. Some claim to have descended into Hell, or traveled a great distance across the stars only to approach the sounds of wailing and weeping. In these instances, the person usually greatly alters the very fiber of how they live life. There can be no doubt that near-death experiences directly affect one’s evaluation of their own life, and can shape perception and behavior in an instant.
Some people, who never cared about certain aspects of their life, suddenly run with new ideas in those areas. Relatives may often express that a supernatural encounter is the only explanation for the radical change in their loved one.
Why would God allow some people a peek inside the pearly gates, or a look at what could be their demise in Hell? Many who claim to have seen Heaven wish to remain, but find great peace for the remainder of their years on Earth. Those who claim to have seen Hell say that they have been given a second chance, and make their own peace with God.
Scientists cannot explain why individuals can recall hours worth of conversations and situations away from their own bodies, when they may only be legally dead for mere seconds before they are revived.
We may never know the realities of near-death experiences, but we can be thankful for the blessings they seem to provide for those who experience them.
What is Purgatory? Purgatory is believed by many to be a place where those who die are cleansed before they may enter Heaven. Islamic, Jewish, and Zoroastrian beliefs all have an equivalent for Purgatory.
In Catholicism, Purgatory allows for temporal punishment for sins which were not given absolution through confessions on Earth. Prayers are given for those who pass through Purgatory prior to entrance into Heaven.
In Protestant circles, Purgatory is often dismissed as not being grounded in scriptures. Protestants often do not see the need to pray for the dead. They often believe that the journey from this life to life in Heaven is instantaneous.
The Jewish Talmud tells of punishments that are temporary. This is however in relation to judgment day, and has little bearing on modern Purgatory doctrine.
Islam declares opportunity for purification for those who have “an atom’s weight of faith in them.”
While Purgatory is not expressed as adamantly as Heaven in nearly any faith, it clearly stirs questions and ideas. While we may not have all of the answers right now, we will all ultimately discover what awaits for us one day.
Out of Body Experiences
What happens when someone is about to die. If you believe that people have a soul or spirit, then Heaven, Hell, or some other existence is waiting for them.
Have you ever had an out of body experience? If so, you are not alone. Many people, when near the verge of death and are later revived, tell fascinating stories that lend credence to the idea that we are spirit and soul at our core.
An out of body experience can best be described as experiencing the world around you, but apart from your own body. Those who claim to have experienced these feelings, say that they have hovered over their own body, witnessed things taking place in other locations, and even visited loved ones.
What is surprising is that often, those who have just had an out of body experience can provide unexplainable evidence in support of their claim. For instance, someone may recall sensitive details of operations taking place elsewhere in the very hospital where they nearly died. Others may be able to tell of overheard conversations, word for word, that were not spoken in their own hospital room.
Some doctors are quick to disregard the possibilities of the supernatural, but for others, each testimony encourages them in their role as protectors of human life.
While there are many people who falsely claim to have out of body experiences, there will always be others who truly experience something unexplainable. The evidence proves there is more at work than we can know, but knowing that there is something more excites what now very well could be the soul.
